The Art of Co-operation
Two artists, a ceramist from Germany and a painter from Iraq have met in Holland.
Brigitte Reuter has been living in the Netherlands since 1981. She came here
because of love. Qassim Alsaedy came to Holland in the mid-nineties
to find a new place to work and live in freedom. In a way they both became
Dutch artists.
Their co-operation began with a project for the Ceramic Manifestation of
Utrechtse Aarde in 2002 whereby the participating ceramists should work
together with artists of another discipline. From this co-operation arise meditative
architectural forms as visions of a dreamland which are related to the Arabic style
houses and castles. Towers refer to their meaning as links between earth and heaven.
In the co-operation, the two provide a joint reading of places and
things located at the edge between reality and fantasy. They create spiritual
places. In the process of making, memories flow into each other or a dialogue is
achieved. This is also obvious in the interactive objects they are making lately:
Ceramic fields give associations of old stones or pathways incised with the memories
Qassim reads, looking at them. The arrangement of the stones can be changed
in a playful manner. A map with numbers gives the possibility for Reset. The
underlying vision is expressed by titles as 'memory of a garden', 'traces of the road',
'ocean stones', 'passage to paradise'. |
